Yosemite National Park is located in eastcentral California east of Modesto, California in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It has some of the world's most spectacular scenery including towering granite cliffs, thundering waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, and beautiful alpine lakes. Two of the most famous cliffs in the park are Half Dome and El Capitan. Half Dome is the most recognizable feature in the park rising 4,733 feet above the valley floor with one side completely sheared off. El Capitan is the largest exposed granite block in the world standing at 3,593 feet above the valley floor. The park also contains three of the tallest waterfalls in the world with Yosemite Falls being the tallest. Yosemite Falls is the highest waterfall in North America and the fifth highest in the world. It has three different levels of falls combining for 2,425 feet. Another highlight of the park is at Glacier Point which has one of the most spectacular views in the world. Mariposa Grove is another place to visit in the park which has the Giant Sequoias (the biggest trees in the world). On the east side of the park contains Tenaya Lake which is a beautiful alpine setting located in Yosemite's high country.
