Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located in the Guadalupe Mountains in southeastern New Mexico close to the town of Carlsbad. The park contains 83 different caves which includes the nation's deepest limestone cave at 1,597 feet and the third longest. It contains the Big Room which is the largest underground chamber in North America, measuring over 2000 feet by 1100 feet and up to 250 feet high. The Big Room has some of the finest displays of formations found in the world. There is also a gift shop and a cafeteria located 750 feet below the surface where you can take an elevator back up to the top. One of the parks main attractions is the Bat Flight that happens every evening in the summer. There is amphitheater that overlooks the natural entrance to the cave where the bats emerge every evening.
